How Did I Get Pregnant

Many women undergoing fertility treatment are too impatient to wait for their fertility clinic to perform a pregnancy test on them and resort to buying one from their local drug store. It is important to remember though that if the test is carried out too soon after the treatment, the test might show a false positive.

If you are pregnant, you may start to notice other clues such as missing your period, feeling or being sick, sore breasts, wanting to go to the toilet more often, tiredness, sensitivity to strong tastes and smells, as well as mood swings.

More often than not, the fertility clinic will stay in touch when you become pregnant in the first few weeks of pregnancy to carry out ultrasound scans to check the development of your baby.

If your fertility treatment is successful, don’t be surprised if you are not as overjoyed as you expected to be as it can take time to adjust. These mixed feelings are normal for many women when they learn they are going to have a baby, irrespective of whether they became pregnant naturally or through fertility treatment.

For some women, it may be necessary to have additional scans at the hospital. This might be because they have had previous problems like miscarriages, multiple birth, and stillbirths or because of their overall health. Your age can also be a determining factor because the older you are the greater your risk of complications.

But as well as huge benefits, all medical treatments carry some risks and there is no way of ruling out the slight chance of problems, no matter how the baby was conceived, but most problems are relatively minor. It might be easier said and done but try to relax during the pregnancy and enjoy the time as much as possible.

Unfortunately the number of miscarriages after using In Vitro Fertilization is slightly higher than those after normal conception. This is because, firstly, women who have fertility treatment will have a pregnancy test very early on in the pregnancy.
